Flies? Try Tansy!

This potherb can be poisonous in quantity. (Tanacetum Vulgare)

It's leaves along with flowers makes "wormifuge" tea and it keeps small flies away. Or so it's been said.

Tansy grows 3ft tall. It's bitter and strong smelling, it spices up the pallet so don't take a big bite! It's a yellow flowering plant with "feathery" leaves. (Almost fern like).

This raw, can also can quench hunger pains on long hikes- or car trips with a driver who doesn't like pit stops. Though only consume a small amount twice in one day. No more, and less is better. The leaves are what to nibble on. About three same size leaves. Only do infrequently. Not every trip. Not a way to lose weight by staving off the need to eat.

By the ocean? Get a Cat's-Tail!

Or also known as Reedmace, (Typha).

It can grow to 15ft tall, and the brown flower like head can be accompanied by grayish leaves.
The roots and stems are edible raw or boiled. (I suggest boiling roots).
Cook the leaves like spinach (steamed or sautéed). And the young shoots can be cooked like asparagus (I roast it in the the oven coated in pink Himalayan salt and either olive oil or veggie oil).

The pollen can be mixed with water to make dough and cook it on a griddle or an end of a stick if you can't bake it.

Spring Beauties

Montia is about 30cm tall, covered with oval long stalk leaves. It's flowers are small and varies in the colors white and pink. It lives in sandy places.

Dig out the tubers (roots like) and peel them, then boil.
Young leaves are edible and supply Vitamins A & C.

Simply Dill

Ah Dill, a simple spice on top of fish and roasted on russet potatoes. But Dill is so much more :)

Dill, or Anethum Graveolens, has yellow sprig flowers. It's derived from the Scandavian Norse word (Saxon verb) "Dilla". It means "dull" and or to "lull" because the seeds are soporific---(helps sleep).
Some history shows it was the herb commonly used in magic.

Dill has no real healing qualities, its a cooing herb, but it's so great on cold pickled cucumbers!

Herbs

Many wild plants in your back yard can be used, not many people know how to tell which is false and which could cure your cold. Through this carefully calculated blog, I shall post some easy fixes that I have used and give links to helpful site that could back up what I'm posting.
